I have a shop building on my acreage that I would like to install an alarm system in. The building is 42x75' with a 14' ceiling height. I'm looking for something very basic which will be able to alert me and the neighbors (outside sirens) and scare away anyone who decides to break in. I'm not interested in monitoring or any system which is difficult to program or operate.

I'm thinking about a basic control panel with a key pad, ceiling mounted motion sensors and inside and outside sirens. I would like a hard wired system.

I would also like the system to sound an alarm in my house which is 200' away. I have underground conduits between the house and the shop which contain telephone and intercom wires so I can run wire through that.

The shop has motion sensor halogen lighting all the way around and I also have lights on motion sensors inside to light things up if someone gets inside at night.
Being able to wire in a smoke detector would be a plus.

Does anyone have any recommendations for me? It seems like everything I find while surfing is way too complicated for what I want.

Check Radio shack, they should have everything you need as far as motion sensors and alarm kits. I plan on doing something like that in my barn, but without the motion sensors since there are horses in there.

I did end up going to Radio Shack and picking up what I need. I got the control panel/keypad, 3 motion sensors, siren, 600 ft of wire and battery. Total was under $200.

The system is quite simple and easy to set up and looks like it should do what I am looking for. The only thing I might add is an "industrial strength" siren or possibly more like the one I have to really wake the neighbors up when they go off. The panel will only support a 1 amp siren load so I'll have to add a power supply and relay to provide the additional power.

Radio Shack's web site does have quite a bit of info on these products. I'll let you know if everything keeps working dependably!
