Hello,

I have an Amana washer machine model # LW8203W2; manufacture code PLW8203W2B; serial # R9612038363. Within the last week, it has developed a howl during the spin cycle very similar to a front wheel bearing on a car. The sound is very loud and radiates through the entire tub assembly. I'm suspecting the large bearing in the housing just above the brake. Is this the most likely culprit in this machine?

That and/or the bearing just under the outer holding tank....seals above as well as water often has leaked into the bearing causing the noise.

Hello,

Thank you for the previous information, it was a big help. I replaced both the upper and lower bearings and installed both seal kits (what a difference in noise!) but now the brake isn't adjusted quite right. You can hear the plates make contact but they don't squeeze the pads with near the force they did before the tear down. Could this be a simple adjustment or am I better off running it as is.

Hi,

The pads may be worn down enough to make them slip. Make sure the helix gear and brake rotor are lubed inside. No adjustments that I am aware of.

I have the same problem and this is my first appliance repair. I have done many mechanical repairs such as car brake rotor replacements so I am confortable tackling this project. Are there any instructions and special tools I can access to make this go faster and smoother?
