Broken glass detector

01/31/2006 11:25 AM Handyman Moderator

My neighbors house was broken into via a large window. She did not have window alarms but her alarm installer had installed something that was supposed to detect the broken glass/change in air pressure or other factors in order to detect a forced entry. Needless to say the alarm did not go off. She said the system was armed. Are these devices reliable or do you think she did not have the system armed like she states.

Broken Glass Detector

Glass breakage detectors in to-days world are very reliable. However it's not beyond the realm of possibility, your neighbor might have a defective one. Tell her to call her alarm installer to check her entire system out.
Caution: Yes, glass break sensors are an excellent enhancement to your home's full perimeter security system, but only when incorporated with magnetic door and window contacts. At no time should they be substituted for perimeter door and window contacts.
