I am having my wooden deck replaced. The contractor has suggested composite decking. I have done some research and I am discovering the many issues with this type of product. My main concern is mold. I have a large oak tree next to the deck which creates mold now. I want the new surface to be as maintenance free as possible under the circumstances. Has anyone had any luck with composite materials or are they all problematic? Also, in spite of the tree there is also a lot of sun exposure, and of course, I want a darker color surface. What about fading issues? Thanks |

I'm a big fan of real wood, as it gives you a much more natural look. If mildew or mold is a problem, just clean it every few years with a water and bleach solution. |
