Deck without rim joist

10/22/1998 09:03 PM

Hello all. The FAQ did not precisely answer my question so I'm hoping to get some help here. I am building a dek but my house has no rim joist. The joists are "webbed" or "trusses", not the standard 2x10. I realize I will have to install my own rim joist, however I am not sure of the best way to go about it. The end of the trusses consists of two vertical 2x4's about two 10" in length. The questions are; Are these trusses engineered in such a way that they will provide adequate support for a rim joist, legder, and deck? If so, what size bolts are the best to use when hanging the rim joist and how many bolts per joist? Thanks in advance for your help.
