Designing a new basement |

I am in the process of looking for a contractor to put a full foundation under a portion of my home. Currently, our 1870's farm house has a stone foundation on the original half of the house (2 Story Section). An addition was added in the early 1900's but it was placed on a crawl space with some concrete work and other portions of the house being placed on the ground. We are looking to take this 24 X 26 portion on the house (1 Story Section) and add a full foundation to improve heating cost, add living space, and reduce the mold smell in that portion of the home. Adding to additional parts of the home is difficult due to proximity to the road, septic systems and the location of our well. Thus, adding the full foundation seems most cost effective and logical.
Would it be necessary to have a sump pump system installed or would a drain system in the floor be more adventagous? |

Because it is a crawl space it is usually damp and has a musty smell. There are no signs of black mold on the wood or building structure. |

That section of the basement stays wet because it is a crawl space. Musty would be a better term. |

Black mold is not all you need to be concerned about |

Almost all mold can give you trouble and you might not even know it's happening to you.
Mold can make you feel tired, listless, aggravate you allergies, and a whole bunch of there stuff.
Mold remediation is expensive, but there is a solution for less than $200.
OdorXit Products at www.odorxit.com is the place to get stuff to remove odors. |

Reducing odors is not the same as addressing the mold issue. Please people, do not fall for this SPAM.
A blanket term of "mold remediation is expensive" is false. Each situation is differnt, so costs vary. I would rather spend $200.00 towards remediation that towards covering up the smell. |
