Could a major housefire, followed by complete demolition of interior and removal of all insulation, cause a 6 mo old quality paint job to bubble and lift at soffit & facia? No similar problems previously and paint job done well -- thorough prep, quality paint, etc. Wondering whether huge amount of water and vapor could cause this and/or heat running with no insulation throughout winter could be a factor. Insurance company wishes it had nothing to do with fire, but I think there has to be some connection. Prompt replies appreciated.

Yes the heat from the fire and all of the water applied to put that fire out could cause the paint to bubble and peel. Is it peeling down to the substrate?

While the fire was in the basement, there was an extreme amount of smoke that came out the 2d floor windows and the smoke vapors left dripping streaks on 2d story walls. Paint is peeling and lifting primarily on soffit and facia -- yes, down to the wood. As mentioned, this area had been well scraped, sanded, primed and painted with Benj Moore just last August. For the most part if paint is peeling down to the bare wood it is caused by moisture getting into the wood and pushing the paint off.

What I need is some "expert" opinion that concludes that the conditions I describe are or could well be the result of a major fire with extreme smoke vapors and significant fire department moisture rising, combined with the effect of the following demolition of the interior and removal of all insulation, with furnace running, during an extremely cold Minnesota winter. You may want to check with an organization call Painting& Decorating Contractors of America and see if they have someone that does expert witness work. This group has chapters all over the country and they may very well have one in your area, sometimes they just go by PDCA.
