Heat register removal

07/15/2008 12:05 PM fbrsochart

We just remodeled our bathroom and enlarged it by stealing some space from our master. We ended up with two air ducts in the bathroom, which is overkill. What is the best way to close off one of them?

Good, better, best

As ducts lose or gain heat through their sides, a good way is to go to the main trunk to disconnect the branch going to the room and close off the hole in the main trunk. The branch run to the bathroom can be left in place then with no loss, and the hole in the room closed off.

Thanks for the info, I'll see if we can get to the branch, but it's on the second floor on an outside wall. Is there another alternative if that won't work?

Stuff it

with insulation, so it both stops air flow loss and acts as insulation in the outside wall.
