Problem Doorbell

08/25/2008 03:10 PM Craftywoman

I've owned my new home for 5 months now and have gone through my second NuTone doorbell. The builders' electrician installed both doorbells. We think the first one was blown by a power surge in the house however nothing else was affected. The 2nd doorbell worked for a short period of time but now it doesn't work and when we opened it, parts of it looks like they were melted(I'm thinking maybe another power surger). I'm waiting for the electrician to come-by and replace the 2nd one. The transformer looks fine. Anybody have any experience with doorbells not working? I'm wondering if the electrician might have used the wrong type of wiring?? Could a power surge affect only our doorbell an no other appliance in the house like our televisions? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would replace the transformer for the doorbell, it sounds like to me it's putting out too much voltage for the doorbell.
