Rotting deck

07/05/2007 11:01 PM susanstanton

In August of 2004, I purcahsed a home built in 1935. A two-story deck, approximately 400 sq. ft., was added in 2003. This year I noticed several boards rotting. I found out that the deck was built without pressure treated wood. It was made of pinewood that was later stained, josts and all. Is there any way I can salvage the deck without tearing it down and rebuilding with the proper materials? Maybe using a rubber coating or placing a flooring on top?

You might look at applying a topical wood protectant with any fungal ingrediants.

Jasco make several. Copper Naptha is a generic product.
