Sears resin based wood laminate cabinet material

My wife and I recently had Sears come in and do a free home estimate for what they called a cabinet refacing. The price they quoted was expectedly prohibitive but I was really intrigued by the material they used. It was some sort of resin based laminate that really looked like real wood, but was almost indestructible. They let me have a go at it with a hammer and unlike regular wood I couldn't dent it no matter how I tried. I would like to use such a material to reface our cabinets but am wondering if the material is widely available and another company out there can do it cheaper. Do anyone know what this material is called (if it has a brand name etc)? The contractor from sears said it was exclusive to them but I hear that all the time so I doubt that only one company has it. Any information on this that you can provide would be helpful.
