I would like ot think we are not getting snowed on this one, but I would love other opinions.

We are having an addition put onto our home. The foundation is poured concrete. Last week when going over the "overages" with the builder, I noticed a cost for covering the slab with plywood. this was not a small cost. I would have thought that that cost would have been included in the base cost of the house. He said, that a slab is unusual and because we want to put hardwood on part of it we needed the plywood. He said that if we were just doing carpet, it would be installed directly on the concrete. I think it odd that this is considered an extra. It is not like he is building us a garage. I feel like it is more like having to buy a car, only to be told the seats don't come with it. If I am wrong, I will put my tail between my laegs and go away. If anyone thinks we are getting snowed, how should I handle the builder? Thanks.

Was hardwood floors an after thought? Or did he just forget that he was going to need subfloor material for the hardwood. I'm kinda leaning toward the contractor on this one. but who am i. I would think there is a strong arguement for both sides.

He knew our plans for hardwood from the beginning. I fully understand the need for the sub floor but feel that to now present us with a large bill for this is a bit underhanded. The contract included the basics and a section for possible additional costs. The sub floor was not mentioned there nor in any of our discussions. I copnfronted him with this and he said that there would have been several options for this, but he never gave us the options. It was put in (we thought it was included in the original contract)and then several weeks later he presented us with a listing of over runs and changes we had made and the sub-floor cost was on this list. To me it is the principle of the thing and poor business practice. Now I am feeling the need to question every nail they put in. I knew this was not going to be fun, but I really hate being taken advantage of.
