Stucco Repairs & Refinishing

02/25/2008 09:31 PM fabrisb

Our house is about 14 yrs old and has a stucco finish. We bought it 2 yrs ago and would like to have someone come in and do some minor repairs on the stucco and "re-fresh" it. The stucco is a light cream color and none of the contactors can guarantee the matching of color and suggested we change the entire color of the stucco. We have 2 quotes to do the work; one using a fabriflex coating (Elastomeric Acrylic Coating) and the second one to paint over the existing stucco. Are there any advantages doing one over the other or is it pretty much the same? Please help

STUCCO/EIFS

What you have is EIFS which is synthetic stucco not the old style concrete stucco that was used years ago.

You most likely will not be able to match the existing color close enough to touch it up. An elastomeric coating system would give you a very good job and if it is one of the better ones it can bridge hairline cracks. These coatings need to be applied in a certain way to preform properly and you need to make sure the contractor does it the way in which the manufacturer specifies.

Both products are acrylic latex but the elastomeric goes on at least 4 times thicker.

Hope this helps out.
