Swinging Kitchen door |

I am renovating my 1910 farmhouse and want to add a swinging door between the kitchen and dining room. I cannot find one for sale anywhere in my area (North Central Oklahoma) and the web hasn't been much help either. Does anyone have a website or store info where I can purchase one? I've found the hardware for the door, but can I use a regular slab door with the swinging hardware? I'm in the middle of the dining room remodel, HELP!! |

What you are looking for is a hinge for a double action swinging door. Type the subject wording into google.com and shop 'til you drop.
More specifically, what you may be looking for is the hinge mechanism that mounts in the bottow of such a kitchen door. I have seen these in doors in Corvallis, Oregon installed between 1900 and 1925. I will post here again if I find them on the internet. ...bill |

I have this exact hinge on the door between my kitchen and DR. Any idea how to get the door off. I need to remove the door temporarily to get a fridge into the kitchen.
Thanks...John |

Removing this swing door |

After struggling with this for days, I figured it out!
Remove the four screws on the bottom plate (they are screwed into the floor). This will allow the bottom of the door to swing out and disengage from the top. (You may have to remove the screws on the brass bottom plate of the spring mechanism to get enough remove to get to the screws - you can also remove the screw that is holding the end of the spring into the door and pivot the door away from the screws). |

I don't know if you have a Habitat store in your area but the one I go to in Nashville TN has every type door you could imagine. New and used. Check that out if there is one near you. |
