Trex decking problems

04/27/2008 08:37 PM pamathome1

Is anyone out there still having problems with Trex - not only the product but the company?

We started the complaint process in June 2007 and finally heard from the company last week that they do not believe the deck is defective. We sent photos of mold, warping, uneven color and splitting.
They sent a representative last month(March 2008)but in their letter of denial they only refer to the photos we sent last year, from which they have been able to determine that the screws were not placed far enough from the ends of the boards (closer than 1 inch, which is not true). Why this should cause mold, warping and uneven color, I don't know. In some places, the fascia boards warped to such an extent that the screws sheared off, leaving a gap of over an inch. Elsewhere, the boards warped enough to dislodge an adjacent downpipe.

The deck also gets so hot in summer you cannot walk on it barefoot.

I know there was a lawsuit in 2004, but it does not seem to have solved the problems. We spent over $9000 on materials and are now regretting our choice. The deck was only built in 2006. I was looking forward to years of enjoyment, but now we are looking at a big problem.

Trex

My Mother had a claim against Trex. It took a long time for her to get reimbursed for her decking, but she finally got paid. You have to keep on them. Document everything. When you call, who you talk to, copies of any letters to or from them. I would call and write often. If you had someone build the deck for you, get them and the supplier of the decking involved. Keep making noise and eventually they will respond. If not, contact the attorney general of your state, the Better Business Bureau and your local tv station. Most have a comsumer reporter and they love they stories.

They Knew

Trex knew they had an issue with the fascia warping long before you filed a warranty claim. You would have to look into there files. For photos and complaints from customers and dealers but it is all very hush hush. Which with there lawyers would take a little doing and not worth the hassle.
