Bob is in Rowley with Pablo Contreras of e-counters.com, a full-service Internet counter company that matches customers with their desired counters and local fabricators. Bob watches as the Silestone quartz countertops are set in place, seams are sealed, and a double-bowl, stainless-steel, undermount sink from Franke is installed. Luke Groden of Boston Basins explains that these Swiss sinks are triple-pressed, not stamped, for a thicker, stronger sink. The sink is attached from underneath using epoxy around the rim and specially drilled insets in the counter that receive brackets that are individually tightened to hold the sink in place. The Franke faucet has a tri-flow system for hot, cold, and purified water and comes with its own shutoff valve for easy filter changing. Matt Lihou of DCS – Dynamic Cooking Systems – shows Bob the professional-grade island cooktop, stainless-steel convection and regular ovens, and warming drawer that can dry meats and fruits. The infrared broiling system in the oven sears meat at high temperatures to seal in juices; a combination convection oven and microwave cooks and crisps food; and the stainless-steel cooktop features dual-flow technology for precision cooking from frying to simmering delicate sauces. At around $3,800 these gourmet appliances bring professional capability to the residential kitchen.
