Chadsworth's Columns Installation
Behind the Scenes - Elmwood Neighborhood
Working with local restoration contractor Terry Bates, Bob helped silversmith and jewelry designer Judi Lee restore the porch on her beautiful Queen Anne Victorian home in the Elmwood historic district of Providence, Rhode Island. The crew replaced the existing rotted columns with authentically correct new reproduction columns from Chadsworth's 1.800.COLUMNS. The cap and base sections of the columns are a polyurethane material while the column's shaft is a mixture of composite marble dust with fiberglass that creates a very thick wall. The columns featured in the Lee project are eight inches in diameter at the bottom and can support 10,000 pounds rated on a five pound safety factor. There is no steel reinforcing in these columns. It is the combination of fiberglass and marble dust that gives them their strength and substance.
